Trenta.io March 2017 Update

We would like to start this update by thanking our dedicated fans and community members who have shown us nothing but support over the 3 years that we have worked on Trenta OS and Trenta.io. Today we will make some possibly unpopular announcements. Our goal of providing you with the best looking open-source desktop experience has not changed. Though, we do need to make some critical changes at this time.

We want to be as transparent as possible with all of you. Many of you have noticed that we have been struggling to bring out the next Trenta OS Alpha version over the past year. Our team currently lacks the resources to continue releasing alpha versions to the public and we are therefore seizing to release any further updates of Trenta OS until further notice. This decision did not come easy, but our team determined that this is the only way to move forward. We firmly believe that this plan ensures the survival of Trenta.io and Trenta OS as a result of the freed up time previously dedicated to developing an early alpha stable enough for the masses and constantly troubleshooting bugs reported by people attempting to use these alphas. This change also includes the already released Trenta OS Alpha 3 which after being downloaded over 30,000 times, will no longer be available for download due to the list of bug reports growing daily for this outdated platform.

With all of this on the table, we will be releasing new testing kits you can install to continue to try out Trenta OS & Rainier UI features without the hurdles we currently face and they will be available by May of this year.

So where do we go from here? Our focus on Trenta OS and Rainier UI will NOT change. We will continue to work hard for you. The only thing that is changing is the way we provide the software to you at this time. We will be able to work with more contributors in the TALK@Trenta and UX@Trenta communities on Google+, Twitter and Facebook and listen to your input.

TL;DR: Trenta OS ISO release schedule has been put on hold. Rainier UI and Trenta OS testing packages will be installable on existing Ubuntu Gnome installations and possibly more distros for testing. There will be more community interaction.

If we have something to share with you, we will share it. We hereby commit to increased status updates and will try to keep our community as involved as possible.

Lastly, we want to thank everyone who has spent time testing Rainier UI and Trenta OS over the last 3 years. We ask you to continue this support during this rough transition period and hope to increase donations as we need them more than ever to continue inching towards our goal of beta. We aren’t particularly happy to have to ask this of our loyal supporters, but as we’ve put thousands of hours into this along with our personal funds, we would appreciate any help we can get. We will be sending stickers and possibly other swag for qualifying donations. More on all of this later.

Thank you all,

The Trenta.io Team
